It was a tough day at Hays Paddock with the Reserves and Seniors losing to West Preston. Ongarato and Stella scored for the Reserves before halftime to keep the score at 2-2 but two goals in the second half to our opponents saw the match end 4-2. The Seniors lost goalkeeper Scott Brown to injury after 15 minutes and Michael Panozzo stepped up and played well in his place. However, a 65th minute goal to West Preston was enough to decide the game.

Things didn’t get better for the Sirens in round one as they faced a known and tough opponent in Melbourne University. Two losses (Seniors 1-5 and Reserves 0-6) eventuated in the tough conditions. Both teams tried to play good football but Melbourne Uni made the most of their chances across both games.
